WET Designs Olympic Cauldron Book Release Coincides with the re-Lighting of the Olympic Cauldron, Commemorating the 2-Year Anniversary of the Salt Lake 2002 Olympic Winter Games.

WET Design, the creator of the Fountains of Bellagio in Las Vegas, releases Olympic Cauldron Book. Richly illustrated, this story looks beneath the elegant final Cauldron design to reveal the discarded concepts, the wildly complex engineering and the fire-truck-rolling travails it took to make this journey. It will also take you into the hearts and minds of the people who made it.

January 28 2004--WET Designs Olympic Cauldron Book Release Coincides with the Re-Lighting of the Olympic Cauldron, Commemorating the 2-Year Anniversary of the Salt Lake 2002 Olympic Winter Games.

Universal City, California -- January 30, 2004. Mark Fuller, CEO of WET Design, the firm that created the Olympic Cauldron for the Salt Lake 2002 Olympic Winter Games and the Fountains of Bellagio in Las Vegas, Nevada announces the publication of its book Creating the Cauldron Salt Lake 2002 Olympic Winter Games in conjunction with both the two year anniversary of the Games and the firms own 20-year anniversary.

Creating the Cauldron documents the 18-month process from design competition to the opening ceremonies and beyond. Fuller with Peter Kopik (Director, Strategic Design) and Tim Hunter (designer of the Cauldron) discuss what strategy and process they used to win the competition for the project, and Jim Doyle, (Director, Technical Resources) provides details and anecdotes about realizing such a uniquely challenging project.

Anecdotes include the reactions involved when 30-foot flames erupted from the cauldron mock-up located in the vicinity of the Burbank, California airport; why WET sought out a Utah roller coaster company; how a 45-mile long road trip stretched four hours; whether the cauldron survived a fierce wind storm the eve of the Opening Ceremony, and what event forced the water level gauges to drop to the dangerous levels.

The Olympic Cauldron is permanently housed in the Olympic Cauldron Park at RiceEccles Stadium. On each anniversary of the Games, the cauldron will burn again as a reminder of what it was to (as expressed in the theme of the Salt Lake 2002 Olympic Winter Games) Light the Fire Within.
